are these bearings replaceable? it appears both middle bearings are cracked,, im supprised there is less damage then i thought... still a s**t ton of damage,, could be worse.

Hey Boomer - I haven't split one of these mercs apart before but I'm pretty sure those cracks are supposed to be there to take the bearings off. They split them like that from the factory instead of a clean line just like connecting rod ends. They start out as one piece and then they break them.

Awsome,,thank you for the advice,, i got them off the crank now,,its neat how they put them on, not like there going anywhere once the case is together anyway :mrgreen:

i have accumulated enough parts to finish this project so here goes,. im going to be replacing the fryed 2.4l fat block, with a good old reliable, 2.0l steel bore, horizontal 5 pedal front, slightly used pistons, new rings, bearings, crank, rod bearings,gaskets etc. , the block has been honed,thoroughly cleaned, rings fitted, and pistons installed. i didnt touch this block with a grinder, i really wanted too, BUT! i want to use this motor to get a base number, then try one that i have ported to see if i gain or loose power. , i have another 2.0l newer style , idle relief motor im just going to clean up the rod slots and smooth the exhaust chest, and see what that does. :D
