Had a interesting couple days trying to diagnose my 34 cleaver. in comparison to kens 34 cleaver it runs way higher slip numbers... Mine 15% kens 10%. in my case slip numbers matter as i have a limiter at 6150 or 6250... cant remember.. but either way i'm on the limiter with both props kens at 102 and mine at 97.3.

SO in order to go faster with my prop i need to lower the slip and/or Pitch it up. so the original solution was for KP to shim the 34 Mercury Pitch block and pound out the 34 Cleaver to a 36 simple right? My self and john thought so too.

John got his 34 mercury racing cleaver pitch block monday afternoon and set my prop on it and it was WAY different. so it indicates that my 34 has been worked before it seems to have Lots of Rake in comparison to a stock 34. but either way unless... if we match the prop to the block i cant re-pitch it to 36......

Any thoughts on this? if there was no limiter.... this wouldnt be an issue but there is so...

its labbed more than once. and the rake has been changed.

Here is my thought You have a 34 that you don't like with High slip

So (not sure what gears you have does't matter)

1.75 gear 34p 6200rpm = 114 + Slip 15% = 97 mph

1.75 34p 6200 = 114 mph + 10% = 103

1.75 36 6200= 121 mph =10% = 109

1.75 36 6200= 121 mph +15% = 103


I would think the higher you pitch the prop the less efficient it will be so that being said if your prop as been worked and you don't like it geting it back to stock would give you the best all round results, having never Tried a 36 who knows what the slip numbers would be but my bet is that they would be higher then the 34. I would get it back to stock first ...... I guess if can only work it once it is a big gamble to end up with a prop that would be hard to sell and doesn't work well for you...

I'm with Jay...a 36 is LIKELY (not gaurenteed...) to be less efficient than a 34. The big question in all of this is how hard is it on the limiter? That should factor into your decision as well...or just buy a sporty...that'll get a bass boat into the teens so it should be a cake walk for Venom...

Ken's prop is also a $1500 Dewald...versus a $400 S&F deal (which I would have bought myself...I'm not putting down your prop..it's fast..blah, blah, blah) so there's a big difference in comparing the two...AND who knows what Ken's measures out as...maybe it's a 35 or a really efficient 33...

Put a 2.5 sporty or sporty gutted 200 case on it... Or even a coned CLE. Merc wins at small motor gearcases. On the other hand... There big cases are the biggest joke in performance boating.
