My father in law has a tin boat with an early 90s (cannot recall exact year) 25 HP merc. It has not ran in years so he decided to fire it on the hose and ear muffs. He said that he didn't see any water coming out the outlet that he used to recall. My question is that do these Mercs always shoot water out or will it only cycle water out this hole after the motor is up to temperature? He didn't run it long thinking there might be a problem.

i think your right, any merc iv ran pissed water hard out the pisser even when cold,,, try poking in the hole sometimes bugs will make a nest in the pisser hole... ;) impeller is always a good one to change every year, so i imagine its toast if he hasn't yet. :D

The 25 has a T-stat...won't piss until its warm and the only intermittently. Put it in the lake or a bucket the hose sometimes doesn't have enough volume...

This is what I thought (that it had a thermostat) but am not familiar with Mercs. I figured there is lots of water on the hose as I can run my Yamaha on it. I will suggest the old big bucket idea. Thanks!

I ran across an issue with muffs a few years ago that made me not ever want to use them again. I was looking at a boat to buy that had twin gt 200s on it, at a marina. It had obviously been sitting for a few years. The mechanic came out, hooked up the muffs and batteries, fired up the motors, saw the pisser, then said yup, she's good to go. The broker and I took the boat out, only to cook one of the motors about 2 minutes into the ride. I got a call from him a week later saying the impeller was toast, running it on the muffs disguised it because it's pressurized water. The motor was done for, I walked away, and don't plan on ever running muffs...

Well...the pisser runs off the t-stat so every time the t-stat closes the water shuts off...it's not the actual flow that shuts off..

25hp 2-stroke merc is one of about 3 Mercs I'd actually own..
