MEK - Methyl Ethyl Ketone (Not MEKP used for fiberglassing and available at many stores) MEk is used for preping PVC for repairs and gluing in extra tiedowns/straps in inflatables. Turned out to be hard to find in Canada, and no one will ship it here from the USA. Something about stopping Meth labs here. haha. I talked to the local West Marine store and they sold it in the USA. I asked if they could get any brought into Canada. They said most things like that are not permitted over the border. I tried the part numbers anyway. The California legal version, not permited. The patch kit that come with pocket size MEK swabs, not permited. The full bown real stuff, permited! It was about $17 for a pint. Mine came in stock today. I think it is an error in their system for what is likely old stock, being replaced by the Cali legal stuff. Anyway, if you need some, give it a try. |

FYI you can also use acetone to prep the surface, that is from the glue manufacture themselves Clifton Adhesives Inc |

It is also used to strip powder coated parts. Check with your local powder coater. They will have it and know where to get it. Automatic Coating in Scarborough used to buy it in 45 gallon drums. |

I'm just tell you what the manufacture of the glue is telling me, i don't make the stuff, i would assume if your replacing seams on the boat which most of the guys in the states do it is a major repair (basically rebuilding the hull)where you should be using the two part glue only as well, if you are patching leaks and suck the single part and acetone is fine. |

i used the 2 part glue "stabond" when I rebuilt the Gemini. It is harder to use, makes a brown mess and is harder to clean the surface afterwords, if you need to re-repair an area. |
