I have two of these motors. I have had my motors since the mid 90's. You are correct they are a Yamaha. Two cylinder twin carb 36 cubic inch. In my opinion the best 2 cylinder 40 hp. Not as strong a runner as the 3 cylinder 42 cubic inch Yamaha, but much better than the 40 hp 2 cylinder Mercury. The asking prices vary on this model. Running $700. to over $1500. You can get all the new parts from Yamaha Canada to rebuild one. The motor came as either a short or long shaft, tiller and you could get controls, electric start and even factory power trim. The gear case is 2 to 1 ratio and ALL the 650 mercury props fit. Stock to stock they outperform the 3 cylinder 30 hp yamaha. More torque! Good on an Aussie racer, small SLT, small Sport C tunnel or as a motor you carry in your trunk for fishing trips. Excellent power to weight ratio. |
