Here is an ad for some OLD OMC 49 motors:
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-powerboat-motorb ... 1218873994

First thing you notice is the motors are indoors and on stands. The owner cares about them.

There can be some very good parts in those motors.
-the 73 appears to have the light flywheel
- both likely have the lighter rods and pistons
- they both have nice cowls and pans
- the 73 will have the lighter cast crank.
- the 73 will have the manual shift gear case..it fits later years as well
- the steering arm assembly fits later model clamp brackets with power trim.
- the mid section can be fitted with SST60 lower solid motor mounts.

SO WHAT CAN YOU MADE OUT OF THIS STUFF.

Combine it with some of the other good parts on the market and you can build a low cost motor.
- 1975 block
- light flywheel
- light crank
- light rods
- 1975 head
- 1975 tuner
- solid lower motor mounts
- factory power trim
- big carbs
- nitro gear case

It is all about timing....those two motors were $200.00
Now here is another useful motor...$185.00
http://www.kijiji.ca/v-boat-parts-trail ... nFlag=true

Even if the powerhead is toast you still have a 15 inch nitro.
Cut the spline portion off the crank.
Cut some of the top portion off the 1971 drive shaft from the first 49 motor.
Measure and weld the drive shaft piece to the crank spline piece to make a 5 inch extension.
The extension now has the 4 spline top for the 49 and the lower part fits the 2 cylinder drive shaft.
You now can test that nitro gearcase on the 49.
IF? it works great...if not you have not hurt the gear case and it will always be worth $185.00.
