Back to my early days of Wild Cat racing in the mid 1960's. There were a couple of Shooting Star models racing. The part time distributor for the boats worked at the Toronto Star. Before I got my Checkmate from Ted Quinn in 1966, I ordered a 13 foot Shooting Star which never got delivered.
The 16 foot Shooting Star was a step tunnel design, this boat is the playboy model. The Shooting Star was terrible in any chop and very wide turning. But on calm water running a speedmaster lower unit, they were fast and looked better than any other boat of that time. The largest motor in 1966 was the 110 hp Mercury. The 125 hp arrived in 1967. I never saw this playboy model race in FJ. Maybe Thom raced against them.
I did see one on other sites with a 15 inch V6.
Very rare boat. Still wish I had a 13 foot shooting star to play with. I don't think Switzercraft ever went into full production of the 13. An oval port 56'r on one would get noticed!

Saw this one listed yesterday, figured you'd comment on it.
It's definitely unique.
Kinda looks like a Buick.

There were 2 16 foot shooting stars that ran in the wild cat races. One was tan in colour and the other white/blue. The tan one was owned by a pilot and the other by the son of a Maple Leaf executive There were 2 Checkmates, a Yellow Critchfield driven by a blonde lady who could really drive and an Allison. The last race of the day was Classed as unlimited and any type of boat raced. We raced against everything including outboard hydros and at one race inboard hydros and inboard ski boats. Crazy dangerous stuff. Boomer would have loved it!

Hey Muskoka Mojo, it's too easy to visualize you in your Golden Years cruising Muskoka Lakes in restored metal flake Playboy Shooting Star/Merc power tower, smoking jacket, ascot & pipe, trolling for recent widowed millionaire skank to console their sorrow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB7R14xBI6g
Chazz & Hugh Hefner have nothing on you.
