Small case Merc 60 2 strokes let me reuse my props especially if it is 1.64:1

needs to have both oil injection and power trim working.

M

Have a short shaft that meets your criteria but I'm not giving it away.

Na, never mind.
Think I'll just hang on a little Allison or something.

Is the 50 for sale? Manual start?

50 is electric start long shaft, not for sale right now.

I'm still looking for a Merc 60 or Yamaha 70..

still looking.

how do you people feel about the 850cc (52ci) 60hp Merc 2-strokes from the mid-90's?

We run a 95 52 ci on our Thunder Cat. It's a good motor for our uses but has a few things against it for racing… One, it's heavy, two, you can't do anything to raise compression, 3, weak prop shaft.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend it for racing unless you like running at the back.
OMC's offer far more potential for less money.

Thanks for the reply.

This is for my daily driver, not racing, so I might be ok. Just trying to get a little more performance than my Yamaha 50. It has lived its life at 5100 rpms just to get my ideal cruise speed of 36mph.

Any idea what the performance difference would be going from a 700cc Yam Pro50 to a 850cc Merc 60? This is on a fairly light 14' fiberglass runabout.

You'd likely see a performance increase with the Merc over the Yamaha mainly due to the increased displacement and lower gear ratio, think it's 1.62:1.
Moves our T Cat into the low 60's with a worked 18" Mertens Cleaver, but then again, it's a true tunnel and light as hell.

We have had two VooDoo's test at the cottage. One was a Pro 50 Yamaha bone stock. It ran 53 mph with a 12 x 18. We also had a 6 Mile Lake VooDoo test with a 52 cubic inch 60 Mercury done by Speedmaster. It ran in the 59 to 60 mph range with the same prop. Too fast for T750 and too slow for T850. The T750 Tohatsu also runs that same prop most of the time as does the 70CES yamaha. We tested a 60 hp 59 cu. inch bone stock Mercury on a Critchfield and saw 65 mph with a 12 x 20. Little Charger ran that prop on the Tohatsu at the last race and saw 55 to 56 mph at 6100 with good acceleration.
So just like the T750 and T850 OMC motors you can run the same prop on different motors Yamaha, Tohatsu, Mercury, Mariner, Mariner/Yamaha.
The key is WEIGHT! 50 lbs makes a big difference with the smaller HP motors especially in acceleration.
