Now that we are starting to see people interested in racing an E-TEC and Mercury motors I want to be sure everyone understands the rules for these motors.
The rules have been part of the rule book for years. The 2016 rules have NOT changed from 2015 other than we updated the class champions for 2015 in the book.

In T750 and T850 we currently only mention the 60 hp models. They must run bone stock out of the box. Their displacement can be larger than the older 2 stroke motors. They race in the class where they are most competitive.

So referring to the thread about running a nitro foot on an E-TEC... THAT IS NOT LEGAL by the current rules.

IF?? you happen to have a 70 hp model green motor. It would need to be approved by the race committee and it would have to run T850 if approved.

I've read some of the rules from Australia and they just allow 30% more cc's for green motors. I think that would allow up to a 90 etec but with that big gear case I really don't think it would touch anyone in T-850. Except maybe the Yamaha...

We alone have the 60 cubic inch rule in the T850 class and most are not running T750. We are lucky to have a strong field of fast T750's. The 60 hp green motors will be competitive in T750 especially the Mercury and the Yamaha. We have not talked about the yamaha yet, but, it could become a player on the right hull. The future is the new motors. As more of them show up, we may need to put them in their own sub group. We currently have too wide a difference in speeds between T750 and T850 and I do not think any of the green motors can be competitive in T850. Would allowing the 90 hp two stroke Yamaha help T850? It could add a boat or two, but it would require added rules that may up-set some racers. I think we are better off leaving T850 alone and fit the green motors into T750.

I was asked if the 60 hp Honda would be allowed. YES it would. Every 60 hp green motor is legal. The E-TEC 60 hp is a 52 cubic inch two stroke. Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Tohatsu all make 60 cubic inch 60 hp 4 stokes. So there is a good selection.
