yeah< I meant to ask, so, the sportsmasters are not as indestructable as we've been told? our yammi, and omc lowers minus the limited gear ratio options are ok?have any of you guys "pinned" a carrier in a Yamaha lower , like the OMC's? with two or four 1/4" screws through the housing.

Steve

Surprisingly thus far yammy cases seem to be holding together... I think mine probably has 300 surfaced hours on it.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the gallon of gear oil in it.?

Ya from what I've read its all closed off with security but some people have been allowed to go in and check it out. It's just a cool read to see how it all got started out, with the high performance stuff. If your curious lake x = lake conlin...you can google map lake conlin road, st. cloud florida and you'll be able to see it...you can even zoom in on the buildings a bit, its not hard to find either, its the only thing on the shores of the lake.

Canadian version of Lake X is either 5gallon bay or Six Mile Lake, no tower or security but coolers on shore

I doubt that Merc has the cash lying around to keep it open as a museum let alone keep it up for a testing bed. Those days are past. Share holders to appease! The story is cool though and demonstrated Mercs commitment to going fast. Going fast on the water is a niche market these days...

I've never had an issue with the 2.6 case...and I abused mine...

The bigger cases have an issue breaking prop shafts...the 34 Super lost one on his last ride of the year and a few of the SOB guys on LI have as well. I keep meaning to talk to Gig-tech about a billet carrier with an SHO style bearing layout...
