Whenever there is a post on any of the other performance boat sites about T850 and especially about the performance of the Yamaha 70CES there is always talk about speed. The world record of T850 with a 70CES is 65 to 66 mph. Their hulls are a few inches longer than ours and it is the length of the deck not the hull. Our hull length is equal or longer. The weight is the same 725 lbs. Most of our boats are over 760 lbs. DOC and Jim run stock Yamaha motors and both boats run in the 66 to 67 mph range. Same as the top boats over there. We even run similar props. So there is little difference in T850. The OMC's are all 49 cubic inch and very competitive. Jake would have a field day racing over there.
The problem or upset with the 70CES is when they run the exact same 70CES in the tunnel class. They claim 80 plus on the course and the kilo is 103 mph, which is 7 mph faster than the world record in SST 60. Every motor expert that nows the 70CES says that is impossible. I managed to get the spec on the prop the fellow ran. It was 22 to 23 pitch. With a 1:71 foot you could NEVER turn that prop at the RPM necessary to go 103 mph. Several other racers have tried to beat the 103 mph record and ran 15 mph slower. So if you think the 70CES is a 100 hp motor you are wrong. It is 70 hp at 6200 to 6400 rpm about 5 hp less than a stinger. But is is still a good T850 motor.

Observing how wet the hulls are @WOT down straights, doesn't seems they are running trim; our 750's are dryer @ 52+mph. Could they be true v-hulls w/o pads, for running the rough sea(literally), rather than pads we run on ponds?...although our ponds turn to sea conditions after 2nd lap, w/o rollers.
