I have been putting a lot of thought in to how i,m going to achieve 85mph on 5 Gallon bay with somewhat the same 250 HPDI i have...

This winter the challenger is going on a diet. i'm going to gut the access weight.

My plan for the boat

Teardown
1 .Remove all rigging (Done)
2. Tear out the floor (Done)
3. remove the HUGE Fuel tank ( i wont be doing any ocean crossings ) (Done)
4. remove the sub floor under the deck (Done)
5. remove the brand new transom knees ( i know i can get em done lighter and stronger) (Done)
6. remove the core in the pad and about 2 feet up on each side ( it is new but i suspect some movement and flexing and i want to know its don right) (Done)

Rebuild By Barrons Custom Boat

1. re core (Done)
2. run a centre stringer ( dont know what material yet) (not doing)
3. build new knees stronger ( 22" of set back isnt easy on anything) (Done)
4. re glass the deck to the transom (Done)
5. sharpen and straighten the bottom of the hull (Done)
6. install new smaller tank closer to the rear ( old tank was 211 L .. new tank im thinking about 120 L (new tuff 30 Gallon tank)
7. install lighter thinner floor (same thinkness floor)
8. re build rear bench seat with lighter material (Not doing.. race hatch in place of back seat)

My plan for the Motor

Rick is doing a Equivalent phase 2 kit from hydrotec.... ( M.R.S Phase 2 ) (Fuck it i just bought a phase 3 from HT)
HT claims 50 hp .... i dont buy it... my guess is 25- 30 hp

i hope this will make this challenger faster..... but who knows it might be slower... fingers crossed

Ok...so...you're doing all that to gain 2mph?? Why don't you just round up and call it a day?? (That for the 50hp comment....). How much weight do you think you can get out?

Wait, wait....Yammer...unlock this guys pad!!

i think i can save about 150 LBS plus the rigidity on the running surface and less weight in the bow should allow me to reduce the set back a little bit..

add that improvement to the HP gain .... i think it will make a big difference in the ability to achieve consistent numbers along with 2MPH i hope..

If you want to go 85mph, put a merc on it with a small ear chopper.

What is the difference in fuel tank weight without fuel? Wouldn't it be easier to just not fill the tank you have?

Maybe there's 2 mph just having the hull blue printed.

Dave, the tank doesn't weigh more than 50lbs empty but with it running alllll the way up to in front of the dash the fuel that's in there i'm sure it effects the bow weight.. and since this boat is very bow heavy already i dont want to give it a reason to effect performance.
