The hunt for parts can be the fun part of a project and sometimes it’s not fun.
After Ted’s passing his sons found a mod C 6J8 Yamaha long block at their shop. Ted had built the motor in 1992 and never sold it. I purchased it a couple of years ago and tracked down what happened to the rest of the outfit. The boat and motor were sold. The motor was sold with a different powerhead. The motor was later separately along with an empty new nose cone gearcase.
The gearcase was made by John Beer at the Prop Shop and never had the inners installed.
I was able to purchase that gearcase.
Ted’s motor doesn’t have the 35 cubic inch sleeves and pistons but it still should produce 45 to 50 hp with the correct selection of replacement parts.
These motors look just like a stock model.
