Yeah! that gives me something to work with.
I was actually going to build something a bit wider than this but this i believe is a great example.

This Aussie gentleman loves to mess with a lot of small hp motors. He modifies them with similar ideas used by others on much larger outboards. The has come up with several of his own ideas.
This video shows his transom mount water pickup, his reworked gearcase among other things. The view of the gearcase shows the height you can run with that type of water pickup.
His modifications certainly get good performance from a small hp outboard!
