Look out Jake there will be a Black power in the T750 class next year. We have built many Mercury 650XS motors since 1975. Before the internet, we were totally depended on local parts. The 650XS motors used up all of the local piston stock. You could not get pistons without the power port and the power pistons didn't work well in a 650XS. We purchased many stock 650 & 700 powerheads to get useable pistons. In the mid 1990's CBF changed the rule for the 650XS to allow after market pistons. All the 650XS guys got together and had Wisco make us pistons. They worked well. I have several left.
At the Barrie Car Flea Market I buy a late 80's 3 cylinder Mercury. TOP GUN confirmed what I thought. The later model stock 3 cylinder twin carb motors all used power port pistons and my old parts would not work. I needed to find an old non power port block. I looked at several and all were junk. I was about to give up on the idea, but I wanted to check to see if I had any old stuff I may have kept. I lucked out. In my parts box there was an original old style block. No crank, no pistons but perfect! I must have used the crank and pistons.
The project is back in the works. I hope the electrics and crank etc are good on the newer motor and I can use the older block and my new non power port pistons. Not a lot of money needed and maybe? give the OMC boys some competition.

Hey Don,
I have a 2 carb 3 cylinder merc here that is a 70hp. Flywheel and lower unit are missing. It seems stuck. I don't know I if it's from sitting or if it seized from running. It's just something I got with a bunch of other stuff and don't know the history of it. If you or anyone else could use parts off of it for T750, it's free to a good home.

Kevin

I am building a legal stock 1977 to 1979 2 carb. fishing motor not an XS. In speaking with people that run one. It should run 55 to 58 mph on a light hull. Dave Elsey has run one and so did Scott Whittington. Both said the motor will turn 6800 rpm, but their weakness is no torque. Dave suggested I run a 1.84 or even a 2 to 1 gear case to get some punch out of the turns. Top Gun thinks it should be very competitive with a 1.84.

There on ebay all the time and less costly than I paid in the 1990's. And they have more oversize options.

There was a rumour that Hooker Fraser may loan your dad's 2 carb 49 Mercury and run it on his Allison. There is also the young fellow and dad we see at the boat show and at Gravenhurst who has a Delta with a 49 Mercury. He runs 55 mph on GPS. Another fellow runs a long shaft on his 24 inch transom VooDoo, He runs 53 mph. I would like to see Don's MacDonalds comp VooDoo try one. Different motor brands and models in T750 will get more racers and more fan appear.

First update.
I pulled the tuner out of the mid. I am use to seeing 650XS and X tuners. This is the first stock one I have seen.
First impression! It is a hugh round tube and short, .....no wonder the motor has no torque!
