Matt, if you talk to other people who have torn a Delta apart, they found the same problems. The original splash 1976 Delta's that Jake built at Kennedy boats were super light [160 to 170 lbs] They were lucky if a boat lasted one race season. They didn't care, they just made a new replacement when needed. MOST later Deltas were splashes of the Kennedy splash and built by non boat builders as non raceboats. They were much heavier. That FE Delta that has been for sale for a couple of years could?? be an original raceboat. Rebuilding a Delta takes a lot of time and costs more than you plan. That is the reason most hulls never get rebuild. Owners just patch them up and cover up the problem areas. It also explains why the late 70's Deltas in FE ran 68 mph and later EP Deltas ran 64 mph.......those boats had put on weight with all the patch work. The deck was much weaker and lighter on the original raceboats. But, you will notice an improvement in performance with the lighter boat.

Are you done for this year???? If your done, and Jeremy is out, then we may not make a class in Gravenhurst. All that remain are Tom, Jessie, & myself?

I'm a little worried about about Gravenhurst and Haliburton...
Tried putting the short shaft on the Voodoo and it is a no go. The Voodoo transom is too tall. So I'm looking for a boat to drive, or I need to assemble a long shaft T750 motor for the Voodoo..

fbf setback solves the "short shaft too short" issue.

I've seen setback like that used before, and am looking in to modding my plate to do this.. Pete's yellow/red Voodoo with Yamarude setup was similar and added some negative angle..

But in my opinion that's too much setback for a Voodoo. The handling really suffers..

Steve, didn't you guys used to run with the motor right on the transom? How does your current setup compare in terms of handling?

My voodoo has the 1" shorter transom that the originals, it has several issues:
- transom is still too short to put a short shaft right on the transom, even with the neg. 5 degree wedges (1" setback).
- long shaft motor needs to be jacked up 4.5" (with 3" setback plate, good racing height for me)
- negative transom angle isn't enough, extra 5 degrees would be ideal.

We cut the transom down 2 inches. to get to 21" from top of transom to bottom of pad. I agree the handling will be better on a voodoo without the setback, since it already has the notched transom.

Any opinions on using Coosa? It won't save more than 15lbs.. Coosa costs a lot, and I already have a full sheet of marine ply at home.

I used an even lighter foam in my Thundercraft transom and stringers. Resulted in a lighter boat but moved the CoG forward which didn't help top speed. It is holding up well and I like the peace of mind of no water absorption or rot. But who knows how long it hold up in terms of vibrations, crushed by the engine bolts.. It has been only 4 years so far.

I've noticed recent Critches have Coosa transoms...
