I spoke with Jeff and he offered the following suggestions.
This altered stock motor will make over 80 hp
The piston
For a pump gas motor he will supply a piston that produces 150 to 155 compression.
Jeff has to machine the piston to lower the compression.
The engine longevity is the same as a stock 120 to 125 compression motor.
Go higher and the first weakness in the motor is the crank then the rods.
He has two sizes of Wiseco pistons stock and 20 over.
http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/s ... In-Mercury
THE PICTURE ON RON'S SITE OF THE PISTON IS NOT THE ONE FOR A 59 MOTOR.
THE ONE IN THE PICTURE HAS BEEN MODIFIED FOR A 52 MOTOR. IT IS CUT DIFFERENT AND LOOSES A RING.
The cost including machining is $180.00 US each...$540.00 US for the set.

The sleeves
The 40 hp and the 60 hp sleeves are different.
The early 1998 60 hp had the best sleeve performance wise.
The block casting is not that good for air flow.
You should remove the sleeve and clean up the block.
He makes sleeves for the motor.
He only makes them when ordered.
Depending on the order the cost is $120.00 to $150.00 US per sleeve.....
He will advise the price when you order.

MOD MOTORS
He does many mods for the 59 cu. inch Mercury including 6 pound flywheels, special rods etc.
He also does mod Yamaha stuff and mod V6 stuff.

WOULD DRAG BE INTERESTED IN ALLOWING THE MERCURY IN T850?
IF SO IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN RUNNING THE MERCURY?

Now something else to think about.....MOD 30
MAXIMUM DISPLACEMENT 40 CUBIC INCHES
Could be a T boat, tunnel or Dinghy Dawg

POSTED ON RON HILL'S SITE

On the world stage there is a NEW market for your sleeve and piston.

Many countries love and race MOD 30 hp motors.
They run flat bottom hulls, V hulls, tunnels and aluminum dinghy hulls.

The Mercury Sea Pro 30 hp is a 40 cubic inch [2/3's of the 59 motor]
http://www.louisianasportsman.com/cl...8559861086.jpg

You could get 55 to 60 hp with your sleeve and piston out of that motor.
The motor came as a short shaft and as both a remote steer and/or tiller.

BIG ADVANTAGE IS PROPS!!! All of the Mercury, Tohatsu and Yamaha props fit.
I believe the gears cases can switch as well so you have 2 to 1, 1.83 to 1 or 1.64 to 1 options.

COST.....less cost to build a 2 cylinder compared to a 3 cylinder.
