Looking to see how many T boat guys would be into drag racing. CBF meeting is in two weeks so it would be great to know how many guys would be into going 800' in their T boats. It would just be another way to get more seat time at events and maybe get us to more events. Went to OPBRA meeting on the weekend and I was the only T guy there....hopefully more at CBF meeting.

This would be a great thing to get going.
We can schedule it so those who wish to do both, can.
We would like to see at least 6 boats to try this out.

Been in the same position at many TORC meetings and at the CBF Convention I know the T guys will support OPBRA and you will get 6 boats in Drag.

Sounds good guys! With your three and the three of my own I'd say we're in! I'll keep pushing at the CBF meeting next weekend!

Thanks for making it out to these meetings it's a big help having a voice to represent us.
I would love to make every one of them but it's not always in the cards.

So thanks for taking the time and updating us.
I know everyone appreciates it.

Back in FV racing days the fastest off the dock was the 59 cubic inch 60 hp Mercury.
They are not run in T850 anymore because of the altered 56 OMC .
I posted this thread on Ron Hills site
http://www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/s ... post153630
These pistons could make the Mercury a very good T850 drag motor. The like Mercury only racers will be interested.
Jeff is on Fast Boats. Many on this site are banned from that site.
If someone could post the information on here, many of us would be thankful.

I found Jeff Dunn on S & F.
Jeff is a major player in southern drag racing.
He appears to have built a few super quick 59 cubic inch Mercurys....!!
Heres a pic of my buddys 14 ft Fast craft with a 3 cly 40 merc running 73 mph in the pic. Jeff
Jeff Dunn 843 222 9498
By the way it turns a 12 x23 cleaver 7400 rpm on a 1.83 gear ratio, with a modified bobs nose cone
.

The Last year of the PPR race series CRAIG FERRIER with his 56 OMC dominated the FV class winning every race until the Canadian Nationals in Sudbury. The Sudbury course was different to the other courses. It had a shorter run to the first pin and shorter straightaways. There were two 60 hp Mercurys in the race....Jimmy A and Brian S . We tested a lot with Brian prior to that race. We ran a 70CES yamaha. We had lost the Sudbury Nationals a few years earlier to Steve W. 49 OMC . This race would be won by getting to the first pin...FIRST! The races were LeMans starts. We had a tough time beating Brian at practise once he switched to one of my props. At the race Jim A asked to borrow one of my other props. He jammed that prop so hard on his prop shaft that I had to sell it to him. It was his best prop until he hit a rock on 6 mile. Start position for the first heat was out of a hat. PURE LUCK!! Jim Whittington drew pole. Both Brian and Jimmy A got bad picks. Final results....Jim W...Jimmy A... Craig F.....Brian S.

I would give serious thought to using a Mercury in Drag.

Remember a very good drag boat is not a good oval course race boat.
The drag boat does need to handle corners.
You could run a 20 inch mid and use the extra height for a better exhaust system.
You want an outfit that is right on the minimum weight 725 lb.
You could run a wider hull and wider pad so the boat sits higher in the water.
Its not how fast your at the end of the race....its the time it takes to cover the distance.

Boomer made his T750 boat out of the bottom portion of a larger hull.

Some of those hulls can be good T850 drag boats. You don't need much of a deck so don't add weight & strength you don't need.

There is a lot of content in my post above.
This poster ....is important!
It is 2017 and it shows the direction of tiller and T type drag.

They do run 40 hp classes. The reason they run the 40 hp Mercury is the cubic inch of the 40 Mercury. It is 59 cubic inch, The largest displacement 40 hp. It is also the reason they mod the 40 Mercury instead of the 60 Mercury. Both motors end up the same after the modifications. It T850 you would only be allowed to change the pistons to give the motor 160 compression. So you would need the 60 hp model.
With the 40 hp max. teen boating rule in Ontario, a STOCK 40 hp drag class is an option and allow T750 boats to race in that class. Some people just want to drag race so this works.
