Hobby T850 would be a group of non raceboat style T boats powered by 53 cubic inch maximum pure stock motors. Unlike the normal clock start the boats would come to the start line in pairs same as NASCAR. They are positioned slowest first to fastest last. We need 6 boats minimum in order to make it work, be fun for the racers and the fans. Your TORC Club membership will to paid for at your first race. Safety gear will also be provided. Each racer puts in $10.00 for a lucky draw which is done after the weekends racing. Any boat that can run low 50 mph speed would have a chance to win with this format. The more boats the harder it is for the boats at the back to make it to the front. People don't want to put race numbers on their boat. You're removable number will be on the engine cowl and you will not require one on the boat. Lot's of very low cost boats and motors in the market place.

ARE YOU INTERESTED?? We need 6 boats minimum.

mattmak has a PRODUCTION model VooDoo powered by a 70 Yamaha.

Perfect for Hobby Class.

Your Hobby class boat can have center steering. It can also be an older model V production hull that you restored.
49 70 hp OMC motors
60 and 70 hp yamahas
52 cu. in 60 hp Mercurys
All fit in the class

With a twin carb 49 cu. inch Mercury you are able to race both T750 and T850...more racing more fun.
The motor needs to be on a production model hull and have the T850 minimum weight of 725 lb [boat, motor and driver] in order to run both classes. There was a good VooDoo / 49 Mercury on this site. It would be a excellent choice.

you would need to run a pace boat Like we do in off shore the two front boats line up along the transome of the pace boat and the starter on board the pace boat decides when the fleet is in a fair position at that point the starter put up the green flag and the race is on.

Pace boat peels to the center of the course.

I would like to see all T classes start like this. For the first race positions are drawn and random. day two you reverse the finsihing order... winner starts at the back.

Same for each race after that.

I would pace with the T3 if schedule permits!!
Could even have the "on track" experience offered up for two in the back seat!!

This sounds amazing and the crowd would LOVE it!!

I was asked if there were any PRODUCTION model Critchfield boats that would be legal for T850 Hobby class.
All of Danny Critchfield's boats were built to race in APBA EP class with a 850 lb minimum weight. After his death the original molds were sold to David Lee. Lee did make some lighter boats. So there are NO single seat CLOSED DECK Critchfields that fit the Hobby class.
Marty Brodeur's boats are a splash off an original Danny Critchfield. Marty did build some open deck boats. Larry and Tim have that boat. I do not know the weight of that hull. IF? it was the same as a production model VooDoo, then we can look at it. Rapid Craft also made the River Racer non celled model. The bare hull weights in the 300 lb range. They race both the celled and open versions of the Rapid Craft in VP75 class. They do not race well. The yellow and blue celled Rapid Craft is on Six Mile. I think it runs an OMC 49/nitro. It would be nice to know how it runs and go from there.
Still Streaming had a lighter 14 foot Kennedy that would fit.
Sidewinder 14 SS's are likely too slow with 70 hp. Tom has one.
Checkmate 13 or even a 14 would work.
Non R old Allisons 13 or 14 fit
Pete's sold 13 Crestliner would work.
Some of the splash Sidewinder 14's were light
The T850 Hobby group can decide what hulls they want to allow. We first need to get some boats racing. T Class is flexible enough that all of the Hobby boats that come out will fit in on one of the groups.

The yellow and blue Rapid Craft runs close to mid 60's if i recall.... The boat belongs to johnny rotton's son and i believe your correct he runs a 49ci with a nitro without power trim. The boat rides well with that set up on the lake.... There are also a few Delta's with Merc and OMC power running around the lake

Based on that information he would fit in Hobby T850 as would the Marty Brodeur open style boats which run in that 60 to 65 mph range. There are several other combos that would run in that speed range including a 15 foot Allison OMC 49/nitro and a VooDoo Mercury 52 cubic inch.

You're right about an 850 on a Sidewinder 14SS, wouldn't even consider it for recreational use.
Stripping one down now and she's a heavy layup. One thing's certain, she'll take a pounding which is kinda the idea for a lake boat.

Now running the Thunder Cat in Hobby Class... that would be interesting.
