Does anyone have any recommendations about trailers?
I'd want brakes and a swing tongue

Forget the swing tongue.
I know more then a few guys that have welded em solid....for good reason.
If you need the space do a removable bolt on tongue.

Is a custom trailer worth the extra money, and how much extra? We don't tow a lot. 2-5 miles each way to put the boat in and out, and usually one trip to a different lake per year. Is the custom advantage in towing or in better support for the boat?

I like a swing tongue so I can move around my garage in the winter. I've had no trouble with the swing tongue on the Baja trailer, but as noted, it doesn't go far. What goes wrong with swing tongues? A removable bolt on tongue would work fine of course, as I would not have to attach it very often.

Which boat isn't clear. My brother is thinking of replacing his 89 Charger and we're jointly thinking of replacing my Baja. No commitment yet on either front, and it won't be both in one year. The replacements would be 18-20 foot outboard boats.

I know of several guys that have complaints about the slop that develops as a result of wear and tear on the hinge. I know of one less then 3 years old that almost came apart. Needless to say, it's now welded solid. My Challenger sits on a ShoreLander with a bolt on tongue. The tongue is removed during long term storage.
My 01 sits on a trailer built by FTP, it's currently being reworked by a local fabricator. His prices are very reasonable. I could ask him what he'd charge to build one from scratch.

I'd be interested in a local price for at trailer.

These guys, http://boattrailersdirect.com/
are at $2600 Cdn for an aluminum trailer. One guy on the Ally board recommended them.

And if it passes the Culp test it's gotta be good!

We got one from Dok and works great

David, I need a trailer also. Maybe there is savings to be had with this company ordering two at once ?
