These Jon boat guys are nuts. First...radar running 70mph Tiller boats...but if you scroll ahead to the 35min mark they seem to drag race out and back with a single pin turn.

pretty cool form of racing. they should do that with the T's

Wasn't someone just saying they wouldn't go that fast, and into a strong current

Those guys would be real fast if they ever bolted an omc to the transom

It's hard to tell exactly what they're running with all the camo lol. Looks like a fun weekend though.

the fastest omc 56 cu in on the day was 56mph...

The first boat on the radar in that video ran max speed of 56mph that was kevin harolsons hotted up 56cu in evinrude 1990/2 bridgeport.
running a 22 raker prop on his weldbuilt.
20 onch midsection on jackplate 2.42 gear ratio and around 6700rpm top end. that's a slip of just around 2%.

the engine was rebuilt with new pistons and rings, 30 thou over bore, shaved head 40 thou, drilled exhaust. ported and balanced rods and crank.
it maxed out at 56mph that's good. but nothing like 70mph that he tried to claim on strictly .

fastest boat there was 69 running with a Yamaha 90 powerhead on a 70 mid with small gearbox and fully modded powerhead..
most of the boats are mid to high 40mph in the 60 to 70hp bracket.
if you go on a the next vid to that one youl hear the classes they run.
in the over 45mph bracket class only 4 boats there. kevin won a 3rd or 4th
most of the merc 60hp and omc 60/70 hp run mid 40's on those boats, only ones to run 60mph are using the NOS.

racing these boats is fun, especially as they handle shit and dont like rough water. wobble every way possible.
but they are not built for racing, they have the fishing bit first and foremost when being built, then the fun bit second.
duck boat racing looks like good clean fun, no pansy crash suits and crash helmets needed, just run what ya brung and get on with it.
oh yeah and plenty of beer and food while your waiting for next race ..

I'll take my pansy safety gear thank you very much...getting tossed around in an ill handling tinner is more fun without a smashed face and broken ribs lol.

Kevin runs a havoc, not a weldbuilt. At the time that video was taken he was running a worn out stock 56er. He just recently finished breaking in the rebuilt motor you are talking about and it's far from hotted up, I wouldn't call cleaned up stock ports and a cut head to be anything earth shattering.

If that Yamaha 90 was modded well it's a Yamaha ! :mrgreen: but a stock 90 Yamaha is about the same as a good sst60, give it a small case and some real mods and it would crush 70 on a 400lb havoc, put it on a light custom one now your talking.

When you talk a mod 90 Yamaha this is what comes to mind
