The Excell was a special performance engine built in 1987,88 and 89. It was called a 225 by most people. It had different port timing, horizantal intake and reed blocks, higher compression and a computer system with TPS and detonation sensors. The timing was controlled by the computer. The motor of choice for hot rodders and racers. Prop shaft HP was over 240 HP. It requires premium fuel to run properly. Many race orginizations actually banned the motor due to the inability of the other brands to compete with it. It would power a fishing ready 20 Foot Allison to over 90MPH while bone stock. A fully modified one would produce over 320 HP and dominated the drag boat racing circuit for a number of years. Amazingly, with normal maintence it was a very reliable engine. The piston clearance was only 2.75 thousands and I have pulled them down with hundreds of hours of use to find that a new set of pistons put them right back to factory specs. It was a horizantal intake version of the earlier V-6 Special (220 Hp) manufactored prior to 1987. Many of the parts used in it are still being used today to hop up newer Yamahas. Due to the lighter weight it will still outrun the 250's being built today on a lighter boat such as many of the larger bass boats.

Jeez...That's even a bit much for me lol. The excel has the EXACTLY the same port timing as the new 225...the 225/excel have always been a strong 225 but it ain't 240hp. It does require premium to stay out of the knock sensor and it does have all the cool parts that bolt on to all of the other 2.6's....but it's not magic lol.

What it does do is make a solid 225hp and will stay together for decades....

What power does a 225 ProMax make? Maybe the excel IS close to 240hp given how Mitchie's boat and mine run so close....
