How much money would you spend to pick up 5mph. Please keep it real...

Everyone knows the faster you go the more money it cost to go faster ...

so whats 5 MPH worth? and how would you do it?

Hmm...that's a really good question. Makes you think...because any of us could easily sell our rigs and buy a rocket or pro comp (there's lots for all budgets) and go as fast or faster than most of us are compfortable with. So...why aren't we all driving rockets???

If I could bolt on 5mph to the voodoo I probably would (I think I could simply bolt on an OMC 56r and be done with it...and I think I'm stupid not to..). The SRV...jeez...it really depends on how fast it goes with this power...I may not want an extra 5....but I'd still write the cheque lol.

Chasing topend numbers is expensive and provide EXTREMELY diminishing returns. I'm a firm believer in free speed..setup...then more expensive speed...propping. Both of these make bigger differences than adding horsepower. When I started messing with the SRV I was happy that it went 82. With setup it went 90...with the Labbed cleaver I bought from Rico it went 93. That's 11mph in setup and a nice prop. The next 11mph will be more difficult lol.

So...what would I spend to pickup 5mph.....I can't answer that one...it really depends. Mostly it would hinge on if Mitchie was 4mph faster than me :).

Yes this is a good question as it could run off in so many different directions. I suppose it wouldn't take much as I could disconnect the rev limiter, raise the motor and block off the top of the holes and try to spin a bigger prop. Not sure it would result in 5 mph though. There is an ultimate speed that I am comfortable with and one of the reasons I am not into a rocket. Also I am not sure that my wife would be too impressed if I brought home a rocket. Once you get above 80 mph it starts to get serious, at least to me in a small pad-vee. So in a round about way to answer the actual question the cost of a coned lower and maybe another prop would likely do the trick at this stage for me...

Rick, you raise a great question ... " why don't we all just have rockets" .. Well In my opinion a RR is super fast and an awesome ride but easy to go fast.

I think for many of us it's having a unique package and making it the best it can be. We want to be the fastest with the make and model we have... A great example of this is Dougw he has a 87mph panther .... Enough said. And mike aka talon kid squeezing every last mph with sheer set up... Now he's running a stock promax at 98.9 mph!.

So for me I would put a price tag on 5 mph at 5k .. Call me crazy but I want the fastest Yamaha power challenger/superboat/shadow... Even if I'm only competing with our American friends on scream and fly and I will never meet them.

You're crazy lol. If you're competing in that club you're competing against Tuffs and Intimidators...and you need more than 5 lol. Beyond that it's hard to know how fast the LI guys acutally are...it is the internet after all.

BTW I was out last night on Maple and ran a 104.6 in the SRV...so 5.4 and I'll write the cheque...
