96 Merc Pro XS 250 HP

Im exploring options

Can anybody tell me about this?

What is the difference between this and regular EFI and Promax

Looks like it revs to 6K

Gas consumption?
what is the gear ratio? new model is listed at1.75:1
Does it use regular props? IE - chopper, laser etc

Regular EFI would not be direct injection and would burn more gas.
As near as I can tell from a quick look at Merc sites, they make 3 X 250 Optimax right now
Vanilla
250 Pro XS available with torquemaster
250 Sport XS, comes with sportmaster

I think engine mounts vary as well.
Search on S&F.

They use ALOT of fuel and even more oil...they live longer because of that.

Dunno on ratios

Regular small shaft props work.

I would think the new ones with Sporties would come with 1.64, 1.75, or 1.87. The new ones are large shaft.

The Pro XS version, with torquemaster is 1.75, probably large shaft. The regular gearcase version is 1.75.

Why does Merc make some many 250's? Two versions of the Pro XS, a sport XS, an Optimax 250, a 250 Pro 4 stroke, and a 250 Verado. I count 6 on their websites.

did they even make a a Pro 250 XS in 1996? The 300PM did not come out till 1998.

Here is the spec sheet from the 2003 Catalog on the 250XS

Thx for the info guys. I spoke to the guy yesterday and as it turns out the engine is just a plain old 250 EFI.
They had put the XS Pro stickers on the cowl.

Oy!

Yes - your right - they didn't make an XS Pro in 96.
