Post subject: | Maybe Go Back to Running An SST 60 Gearcase in T850 |
The suggestion came from a former T850 racer who was racing in 2010 to 2013. In 2010 we were seeing both the nitro case and the SST 60 gearcases being raced. Racers found that the nitro gearcase was better on the race course. The thought was the boats ran positive trim most of the time and because of the angle of the gearcase in the water, the nose cone on the SST 60 gearcase caused extra drag and hurt the performance. By 2013 no one was running the SST 60 gearcase. After 2014 the speeds in T850 have increased by approximately 5 mph and the boats now run neutral or negative trim most of the trim. In a neutral trim position the SST 60 gearcase will be faster due to the nose cone and the longer gearcase. The SST 60 also has a larger skeg compared to the nitro gearcase and that should improve cornering. Another possible advantage is running the 1:7 gears in the SST 60 gearcase along with more pitch /smaller diameter props. Say a 12 X 25. The SST 60 is a better running gearcase and can run smaller diameter very effectively. We know that smaller diameter improves the handling characteristics of the T850. You likely need the different gear ratio because props over 25 pitch for those gearcases are rare and with 12 inch diameter you will need a 24 or 25 pitch with the 1:7 gears and a 26 or 27 pitch with the 1:8 gears. |
