Im just looking at the idea of decent performance runabout power. Id like to run the motor as is if I keep it. Id rather sell it off and buy my own lifeline jacket or prop to race next season though |

Don, are you saying that the '79 to '84 style electrics will fit a bare 56 block? |

I used the large side mounting bracket from the 56 powerhead and mounted the coils, CDI parts to the bracket. I had to lengthen the wires that go under the flywheel. I used one set on a 56 and the other set on a NOS 49 block. The 56 bracket bolted on the 49 block . I have not tried it, but, they say you can use the electrics, 7 lb flywheel off the early 70's 65 hp and it bolts on a 56. https://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-e ... /45899.cfm https://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-e ... /45937.cfm https://forums.iboats.com/filedata/fetc ... 1400687815 |

I found 56D jets in my carbs. They are 1983-1985 style 75hp carbs. Any suggestions for jetting? |

When I raced my voodoo I had a 1985 stinger which I ran 72Ds. That was as lean as it got....72Cs blew it up everytime. 76Ds were out of the box stock. |

jeebus.. So not sure why stock jets are 56D for 1985.. If 72 blew up for ya, what's with 56D from the factory? You had other mods like higher compression? |

With the 1980's blocks the largest jet I could run was a 58D. With the 74 to 76 blocks I could run a 61D. IN LEGAL STOCK FORM.......THIS IS WHAT WE FOUND FORMULA E, 59 CUBIC INCH MERCURY, YAMAHA 70CES........are equal MID 70's 75 hp OMC, 650XS, 160 compression 56 OMC .......are equal ALL of them are competitive..... |
