Looking for advise here on if I should use Delrin or Aluminum to replace the rubber mounts. I was going to make lowers for sure, but should the uppers be done too?

This is on a short shaft Yamaha.

thanks,
M

If you go solid on the top you will notice the motor doesn't have as much movement when you trim up and your steering loosens.....unless your not running bars and you have mechanical steering....then you will notice a night and day difference! The only thing you need to keep in mind is vibration. You could run into mount bolts snapping or coming loose. If you're up on your maintenance go with solid mounts lower and upper.

I've heard a few different opinions from various folks and experienced racers... No consensus. So I made some to try myself.

I made some Delrin mounts (upper and lower) last Sept and used them at Peterborough. I didn't like the change. I didn't notice much difference in handling and the vibration went up by a tone. The whole boat rattles. This is with basic mechanical tilt tube steering.

Thinking of changing just the upper mounts back to factory ones but they are buried under the engine block so I'm waiting for the right time to do it.
