Checked plugs and piston wash today, looks like its running fairly rich which im definitely okay with. Id rather be rich coming into the fall when i run a fair amount then be lean haha

yeah definitely prefer rich than lean. keeps it safe ha ha
and 160 psi compression is bang on what the ss60 is supposed to be.
only those that have been tampered with get close to the 180 psi, but they dont seem to last very long like that.

what 2 stroke oil are you running with this engine ?

Running Castrol Super outboard oil, had good luck with it and their snowmobile oil in my 70hp 49'er to my old race sled. Went down to 32:1 on my mixture as well, was 25:1 the first 2 tanks.
I found a few little things today, hoping that should gain me that 1 mph to break 70 without swapping props haha

Based on the performance, I think you have a T850 motor. PERFECT!!!
When I started testing motors for T850, racers wanted to expand the motor choice to include the 56 OMC.
Many people had SST60 motors on the lake racers and wanted to race.
We needed a way to de-tune the SST60 motor to make it competitive with the 56 fishing motor and the 49 stinger.
We found that at 160 compression both 56 motors were similar in performance.
The preferred motor by most T850 racers is the sand cast 1986 and 1987 56 cu. in. block with 160 lb compression head.
Just cutting the head, 73D jets and plastic reeds and it is a 70 mph boat. I think that is what you have??
Great all round motor and they LAST!!
Blue print one and it is a 73 to 76 mph boat.

I finally got back out for a ride today, still turning my 24 cleaver i hit 70mph! Im only getting 66-6800 rpm at WOT, i have yet to try a smaller prop but i need a thrust washer as all of mine do not let the prop slide far enough back. Does anyone know what the part number for the correct thrust washer would be for an omc cleaver?

If it's an actual omc cleaver, you can run without a thrust washer

Nice speed!

Cool cool, thats what i was had found when trying them on the shaft. The prop locks in where the thrust washer would go. Looks like would just need one of the plastic splined spacers which i have, awesome!
Thanks! The boat handles fantastic at speed too, I very happy with the boat overall. Hoping to try the omc cleaver this week if i can

that's flying. realy good.
Real good speed , and must feel real good buzzing down the water.

is the prop a solid over hub omc or is it a rubber hub over hub ?

is it using a lot of juice compared to your other 56 ?

what prop got you to 70 mph ?

Post subject:  Re: SST 60 tachometer harness?

The omc prop is a solid hub. My 24 hill cleaver got me to 70 mph, there might be 1 or 2 mph left with fine tuning before i get the prop worked. The fuel consumption on my 49ci 70 hp was better then the sst 60 but is not a huge difference especially considering the speed gain

All sounds real good.
is the pull away also reasonable or does it take a while to plane off.
have you placed a camera by the transom to se where the cav plate is running at.
an extra 2mph at that speed will feel like an extra 10.

there will be a few big guns at the lake worried about you creeping up on them now ha ha .
do you have any races planned for this rig ?

also do you start this in gear to help the box or is this ok with the solid hub.
