Can a 60 hp E-TEC mount on a 40 E-TEC midsection?

How big was that phantom? That was obviously a race class...not the fastest 90hp Etec...that motor on a regular "speed" boat will run over 50,

well they dont go over 50mph in slow water in the uk or in Europe on average speedboats.

that phantom was an ultra lightweight 16ft, deep v hull with a pad and running a 23 pitch srx/silver streak on a jackplate.
About the last 1ft of the boat and the engine was only thing in the water.

because the e-tec 90 is so slow and people complaining about the sluggishness of it for top end, Brp have a solution.
They make a totally different ,much bigger engine and call that a 90HO !!!!!

Craziness...well no love lost here. Seems funny that our 90hp 4-stroke yamaha will run 45mph on our 1750 Crestliner...and here those BRP people tell us 4strokes are slow lol

The tuff ran 52-53 if I remember correct...speeds are back on that other site

Figure a 90 might be worth 1 or 2 no??? :mrgreen:

I expected the 60 e-tec to be much better than it is
Bottom punch is good, plenty of torque, but all down the low end and nothing once it comes into and past midrange.

with its ratio 2.67 to1 (older version) it should easy swing a 13.5x19 prop on a 15ft boat and get to 6,000 rpm.

Maybe BRP only want the pontoon market with this size engine, ?

4 strokes are not slow here neither, those yams are nice and quick, and very quiet, the buggers creep up on you ha ha

I did some more research.
The new style VooDoo on HWY 11 has a 40 hp E-TEC . No transom lift, no special props. said to run 45 to 50 mph.
In 2012 Mark ran a 40 E-TEC on a production weight full interior Tuff 16...ran 45 mph.

On an old style comp VooDoo the motor can sit almost directly on the transom. Even with the high gear ratio there are props that will work. It may not run 60 mph but it has two advantages - it will accelerate faster and big pitch props hold the water in rough conditions. Now I need to find Paul's 1990 red comp VooDoo!

Here's the deal with the 40-50-60 Etec. The motors use the same block and lower unit. HP is changed through computer mapping. These motors are capable of making 80HP through CPU. The block is the same one used for years on the 45SS engine and carbed production engines. The only real change is the addition of a CPU and fuel injection. I had a 2006 50HP Etec on a 16' Crestliner Sportsman 16 that weighed about 1000 lbs with me in it. Top speed was 46.4 mph with a 21" pitch wheel at about 5800 RPM. You cannot drop pitch and over rev the engine to pick up speed like you can on carbed engines because of the CPU. Now this engine made a ton of torque and the whole shot was the best out of any engine I had ever tried, mercury, yamaha etc. It ran really well. Go talk to your local marine dealer. Most sell every brand of engine these days and will tell you the differences between them. That's what I did. They had every manufacturer on the floor and I was really skeptical at first til I did more research.
