Anyone had some experience owning both types?
The modern 3 tube style pontoon boat is superior.
What about the actual material used in building the boat.
Work boat pontoon boats can have steel pontoons not aluminum.
They say those boats are much stronger and can carry more load...TRUE??
They must be heavier. but, how much heavier?
They must be stronger and do they not break their welds where the deck and pontoon join same as the aluminum ones?

What is your experience?

Here is an example of a commercial one for sale. Seller says it's original cost was $15,000.00 for this small boat.
UGLY YES but put a nice deck, railings, top and a 70 hp yamaha on it. It would be a cool boat,

Funny I had a similar conversation with RBT and Northbase tonight....

Aluminum tubes are great as long as you don't beat them up....like say driving them when there is ice on the lake. The standard pontoon boat is build to float you and you buddies and beer around the lake..they will float as much as any other pontoon of equal size...or even a bit more when compared to steel because they are lighter. The big difference is when you bang into the dock or beach it with that load you will damage a standard aluminum pontoon. The downside of steel is that it is very heavy and it rots...

if your going to move materials buy a barge , this is my buddys aluminum, its build tough , the entire thing is a ballast , he can fill with water to balance the load, custom 4' jack plate so he can lift the motor as high as he needs depending on how much weight is on it.,. he can tow it to any lake in Muskoka ;)
