Hey guys,

Anyone every installed a performance chip on there outboard? If so does it affect reliability and what are some of the pros and cons. Thanks.

Chip or ECU reflash? One is snake oil the other is for real and works..

Haven't seen a "chip" for an outboard other than the ones on eBay that everyone should know are total bs. Stock computers can be remapped, have re limiters raised/deleted, or you can go with a complete aftermarket ECM. Post what you want to do with your setup and someone can aim you in the right direction :)

Totally confused with the difference between the two, I have a 1999 225 ficht that redlines at 6000. I want to up the power and rev it higher without compromising the reliability. Is this possible ?

Carbs and a Yamaha ignition? Talk to a Johnnyrude guy, hopefully someone chimes in. Apparently they're decent motors when you get rid of the fuel injection...

the 99 is a 3 litre not a great motor for reliability,
The block on that motor can be bored out to a 3.3 buy some pistons from bush put on some mid bore carbs and a old style omc ignition or yamaha
You will have a great lake motor
