First it is legal in T class to use any power trim system from pure stock, cook trim assembly [CMC or other], other OEM brand trim modified to fit [Yamarude is an example] or even thru transom SST 60 style trim and customer setback trim. You can run 12 or 24 volt systems. Some prefer 24 volt to the trim to make it faster. Thru transom trim is normally faster and can be even faster with 24 volt and/or high volume pumps such as a merc I/O pumps. Most of the yamarude systems will require a wedge under the transom clamp bracket to allow proper under trim. The common trim units used are Yamaha Pro 50 3 ram. later large single ram Yamaha 2 stroke or 4 stroke models.
Pure race guys like the thru transom trim or set back custom trim. Lake guys like factory or CMC trim because they don't want the hole in the transom.
The yamarude type gives you the steering tube thru the clamp bracket to mount mechanical rod steering.
A trick you can do to help and keep a good feel for the motor with mechanical steering is to:
[1] use a dual steering bracket mount on the motor and put a tiller resistance assembly in one tube.
OR
[2] if you can, hook up a dummy cable and pulley system that is just a loop at the transom.

Both 1 and 2 allow you to put drag on the system which takes the gear play out and keeps everthing steady.
