1972 Vanguard Pedator with 1972 Hydro Electric Short Shaft Gearcase, Yamaha Pro50 Trim unit, 1977 Johnson Stinger 75HP High Compression Power Head. This boat has been in my family since it was new! The original motor is a 1972 Johnson 65HP short shaft with CDI ignition and hydro electric shift gear case. I rebuilt the original power head in 1988 after my dad ran it on regular gas with no oil. This year I built up a new setup for it , a kind of highbred motor setup. I used a short shaft leg and gear case from a 1970 60 HP motor I picked up in like new condition, I tossed the power head from it as it was a breaker point and single coil (junk) setup. I had in my shop a 1977 Stinger Power head and I built that up with a head with 60 thou takes off it and mounted the swivel to a Yamaha Pro50 power trim. See pictures, this boat flys now , I got it up to 45 mph last weekend.
If anyone has questions , I have a lot of experience with OMC gear cases , I started working on them back in the 1970's , I know about the early Hydro Electric shift and later linkage shift units with and without hydraulic assist shift piston.

Hey cool boat! My family had a very similar boat with a '68 or '69 Johnson 55 with the Hydro-electric shift.

Post subject:  FYI 1973 to 1975 Johnson Stinger Orange Paint Code !

FYI 1973 to 1975 Johnson Stinger Orange Paint Code for those that might need it. You can see above it’s the exact color on my link to my 1972 Vanguard Predator boat engine build. It’s a 1964 - 1966 ford Thunderbird color called 1730 Vermillion Red, see pictures. As well as what the current paint colours are for a couple of different makes.

I have mixed up two types of paint, see following as well as the actual ford color that i crossed referenced.
