Two T Boat owners messaged me about their planned engine builds. One was a 1974 OMC 49 and the other was a 56 OMC Bridgeport. The 49 was a basic rebuild and the 56 questions were about modifications and the porting. First off “I AM NOT A MOD OUTBOARD GUY!” So I cannot offer suggestions as to how lar...

The rebuilt T850 Spec powerheads were all below 160 psi with the spec SST 60 head.. This fact is something most new to OMC 56 cubic inch engine building T guys don’t understand. They assume that if the compression reading is below 160 psi with the spec sheet SST 60 23 cc .440 pocket depth cylinder ...

I would have thought this is impossible to do with a small horsepower outboard. It would be an interesting event to add to a drag boat event.” How far can you go with your boat standing straight up?” They called it Wheelies at the car drags. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKirLYQxD4o https://www.yo...

One of my “Wish For Boats” was the smaller 13 foot version of the 16 shooting star. Only ever saw one in a picture. They did use the deck on a 13 foot V type hull , but that wasn’t the shoot star bottom. The original designs were all built of wood. Then molds were made of the wood boat. This is a 14...

I raced against a couple of these in the late 1960’s. They didn’t like turning the corners on the race course or rough water conditions, but given calm water and a long straightaways they were very fast and the record books show their success.

Did you run the motor and check compression or was that cold? Paul, the compression reading was a cold reading. Years ago Dave Elsey and I did cold reading comparison cold compression tests on several different 56 cubic inch Bridgeport powerheads including pure SST 60, non rebuilt stock powerheads,...

[quote="mercrazy" Has anyone else got any new builds to talk about![/quote] Thanks to Tim and Paul Hickey I have a new 56 build completed over the winter. Here’s the story. Over 20 years ago after the SST 70 class died I was able to purchase at an APR SUPERLEAGUE Race in the states an OMC ...

The idea started about 12 years ago as an easy way for non professional boat repair people to do their own transom replacement using a liquid poured in between the inner and outer walls of the transom. You don’t have to necessarily remove the deck, but you need to remove ALL the rotten transom wood ...
