Notice on the port drawings the 1990 model is a bit different to the 1992. And each cylinder is also a bit different cylinder to cylinder. Now that is different to most outboards. https://rfem.es/media/redactor/435%20-%20Engine%20homologation-p%E2%94%9C%C3%ADginas-4.pdf Why did each cylinder have u...

Now some educational history on the Yamaha 70CES and a Document to back up what I am talking about. There were two UIM homologation sheets for the 70CES. The first version was the blue color model with the two piece cylinder head. It could have been issued in 1988? #00398 I believe was the number. N...

Not many non UIM, APBA, CBF racers know these Documents exist. They are used by the race site inspector to verify that the outboard in this case is legal. They are used by the racers as well because it is the racers responsibility that their outboard is legal. I found them a great tool when working ...

This is one of many 3 cylinder 2 stroke motor topics I have had limited experience with . I started the thread hoping to learn from others who have experience and success in doing engine modifications. In a nut shell this is what I know about this topic: - increasing compression on a stock motor fro...

What do you know about compression readings PSI (pounds per square inch)? What is a good PSI for a high performance 3 cylinder? What can you do to increase or decrease the compression? Do you think the higher the compression the better? Do changes in exhaust port height affect compression? Does redu...

These are very strong engines, but difficult to extract a lot of performance from. Very easy to do the wrong thing and lose power. First off thank-you for the post . There is a lot of information in your post. I purchased my 70CES brand new in 1995. It was delivered directly to me in the original b...

I can remember how pissed off the Canadian racers were when the American factory team drivers showed up at the big event races like Toronto and had equipment especially props and powerheads that the Canadian racers even Canadian factory drivers couldn’t buy or get. Many of the tunnels that the Canad...

I found this video of a 70 hp non oil injection Yamaha very educational. It shows disassembly, modular crank separation, carburetor fact finding, etc. I covers basically everything you should look at in a 70 hp Yamaha rebuild. This motor also has the later style carburetors and 2 ring pistons. It’s ...

There is an evident feature in these type races.....there is more competition for the lead. They mix the classes and it makes for an interesting race to watch. This race even has an inline six racing. Certainly is a nice way to see the different types of boats and different motors compete. https://w...
